Friedrich joined SCIoI in June 2022 on Project 40B, “Big mouse data”. There, he investigates mouse behavior in the context of semi-natural environments, aiming to obtain a more mouse-centered perspective and to design behaviorally relevant tasks. As part of Henning Sprekeler’s group, he also investigates learning using artificial neural networks are model systems. Before moving to Berlin, Friedrich studied Physics at the University of Freiburg, where he analyzed spiking neural networks under the supervision of Stefan Rotter. He then moved to Israel to obtain his PhD in the lab of Omri Barak at the Technion. There, he researched on the interplay between randomness and structure in recurrent neural networks during learning. In his free time, Friedrich enjoys hiking, biking, and swing dancing.
